Getting Ahead in the Property Business
Buying a home or renting your first apartment is an exciting time. Knowledge of the property business is crucial if you are to seal the deal.
But did you ever consider a career as an Estate Agent or Auctioneer?
The property market is on the up, and buyers and sellers rely on the professional advice and skills of qualified realtors.
Here’s a fun fact – in the 1800s, you could pay admission to London Zoo if you brought a dog or cat with you to feed the lions! Some say the property market is still dog eat dog, and you definitely need to know your way through the system!
Pursuing a professional qualification in estate agency and valuations is the first step.
Skills and Personal Attributes
Negotiating property transactions is a very sensitive business. Moving house is one of the most stressful situations we face in life. Tact, listening skills, integrity and street smarts are personal qualities that serve the estate agent well. Understanding the needs of the vendor and purchaser and promoting the interests of the client are foremost. Add required qualifications, and you could be working in a rewarding and successful professional career.
Professional Standards
Since 2011, the auctioneering and estate agency profession has been licenced by the State by of the Property Services Regulatory Authority – PRSA. The law sets out rules on the licencing of the profession and ensures that estate agency staff are suitably experienced and qualified.
Education and Training
Under the 2011 licencing rules, auctioneers and estate agents are required to undertake training to achieve a recognised Level 6 qualification in property. Achievement of this qualification will enable you to register as a licenced Property Services Provider.
