We embarked on our travels to the south of Tenerife on the 7th of April very early in the morning. We said goodbye to our families with lots of nerves and excitement to see what Tenerife and our new jobs would bring to us. We arrived in the Oro Blanco Apartments, unpacked quickly and went exploring the area around us.
The first morning when we were starting our jobs in 5-star hotels and gorgeous nail bars, we were met by Paula and Marivi from Tenerife Job Training to explain all our job locations and answer any queries we might have. The women were so kind and brought us to all our job locations on the first day, so we were comfortable and knew exactly where we were going for the rest of our programme.
Some of us worked in hotel spas where we carried out many wonderful beauty and body treatments and were also taught some new tricks and tips for massage, manicure and pedicure. We learned how to use bamboo sticks during a massage treatment which was really interesting! Some of the girls worked in busy nail bars where they learned new techniques like ombré nails and got to practise manicure and pedicure treatments.
We went to so many gorgeous restaurants in the Los Cristianos area and planned lots of excursions. Siam Park and the Monkey Park were our favourite excursions because we were altogether and had so much fun. We each got two days off every week and used this time to explore the island.
We had a lot of support from our teachers Gillian and Janice. Gillian flew over with us and stayed for the first five days to make sure we were all settled in and that we were all happy in our work placements. I think this really helped to calm our nerves and know there was a familiar face we could go to for anything, she was our Erasmus Mum! Janice came out to Tenerife for the last four days and she was amazing too - it was great when she came because we were able to tell her so many stories about our time in Tenerife. We thank them so much for helping us with everything we needed and for being an emotional support to us all. We also want to thank Breda, our Deputy Principal as none of this would have happened without her, and Tina, our Principal, for being supportive about the Erasmus+ Programme.
We have all gained so much confidence and independence to go out and work in the beauty industry. We can’t wait to be the best beauty therapists with the highest levels of beauty education and experience thanks to BFEI and all its staff!
