Creative Writing

This  course is designed for both beginners and more experienced writers who are wishing to develop their own style and voice.

The course comprises of workshop-led two hour sessions in which the class will draw on exercises to unlock the individual writer’s greatest strengths, focusing on style, story and emotional resonance.

Participants will cover a variety of forms and find the one best suited to the individual, so that by the end of the course each will have a short story, opening chapter of a novel, a short story scene or poem.

The objective is to stimulate the imagination in a supportive environment and to foster a love for the writing process that will continue long after the course has ended.

The course is taught by Liz McSkeane, a poet, short story writer and novelist. She won the Hennessy New Irish Writer of the Year Award for her poetry and her début novel, 'Canticle', was a winner in the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair. Her collection of short stories, 'What to Put in a Suitcase' was published in October, 2022. She is the founder and Director of Turas Press, an independent publishing house based in Dublin.

Testimonoals:

"Liz's writing class has become one of the highlights of my week. Relaxed and insightful, she explores both poetry and prose.
Interesting assignments will get you writing - or get you writing again. I can't think of a better reason to abandon the sofa of
 a winter's evening." Grace Garvey

"The format of the class worked very well.  I would definitively recommend this class if you are interested in learning more
about the creative process of writing. Elizabeth is a wonderful teacher and made sure all our voices were heard."
Isobel O'Driscoll

"Throughout the course, I found Liz's guidance extremely helpful and insightful. The course was well-organized and provided an understanding of the structure, format, and style of world-renowned pieces of prose and poetry. I was fascinated by the exploration of different forms of creative writing, and the insights gained were both valuable and thought-provoking. As a result of the course, my writing has improved tremendously." Rosemary Kavanagh
