BFEI is renowned for the educational experience it provides. Beyond the excellent qualifications, accreditation, industry links and dedicated professional staff, the most frequently recalled memories by successful graduates relate to the diversity, authenticity and inspiring range of educational experiences.
This depth of experience is perhaps best articulated in the annual international design study tour which, this year, saw 35 students from a variety of design disciplines descend on Spain’s bustling capital, Madrid.
The packed four-day tour saw the enthusiastic group attempt to cover every inspiring inch of the city; with a three-hour walking tour on day one setting the tone! From the Prado and Reina Sofia museums to converted tobacco factories, reinvented abattoirs, street art, boutique hotels, contemporary landscapes, green walls and everything in between, there was something to spark every imagination.
Alongside participation in design events such as Bloom in the Park, the annual study tour forms part of a well-rounded education that sees students engaged in a range of educational contexts. “The tour is an integral part of our course,” explained design tutor, Barry Lupton. “Exposure to diverse media in unusual contexts with colleagues from different domains can build bonds, change perceptions and broaden career horizons. Students return enriched, inspired, motivated and confident about their future.”
For those unable to make the tour, the institute organises a host of locally based events, tours and workshops.
Many thanks to all who participated in this year’s study tour week.
