BFEI's Fire and Ambulance students enjoyed a visit to the Emergency Services Training Institute (ESTI) in February. A number of presentations were given on career opportunities across many of the emergency services in Ireland.
Students heard from people working in :
- Dublin Fire Brigade (former student)
- Dublin Airport Fire Service (also a former student)
- Irish Army - medic role and the opportunities a career in the army can offer
- Emergency Medical Technician - working in the private sector (eg events; movie set etc) ( former student)
- National Ambulance Service - former student working on an ambulance with the HSE
- An Garda Siochana - how having additional medical training can advance your career
Students were informed of the training available with ESTI and opportunities abroad. Students heard hints and tips regarding interview techniques and aptitude tests. We were delighted to see so many former students now successfully employed in the career of their choice and all were very complementary regarding their experience in BFEI/SCD. Our thanks to Ciaran Curran in ESTI for organising a great event!
