BFEI returned to Bloom in the Park this bank holiday weekend and having won medals at every Bloom for the last ten years, the pressure was on first year landscape student, Sofi Dosa, and graduates, Tunde Szentesi and Padraic Woods, and not surprisingly, they didn’t let the side down!
First time show garden creators, Padraic Woods and Sofi Dosa achieved Bronze and Silver respectively, while Tunde Szentesi was awarded a Silver Gilt for her garden created for the Marie Keating Foundation.
Graduate Tunde Szentesi returned to Bloom for a third time with her garden created in association with the Marie Keating Foundation to raise awareness of breast cancer in Ireland. Fellow landscape design graduate, Padraic Woods, created an equally noble and socially minded garden with St John of God to highlight mental health issues. A garden inspired by personal experience. 'I made this happen to raise awareness of mental health issues, commented Padraic. A woman just took one of the St John of God’s leaflets and made an appointment right in front of me. If I made a positive impact on person’s life then it’s been worthwhile'.
Across from Padraic, Tunde’s garden was swamped with onlookers and emotions were running high for many people. 'We created a wall where visitors can attach a pink ribbon to acknowledge how cancer has impacted their lives. It’s only day two and we need another wall. It’s quite over whelming', said Tunde.
First-year landscape design student, Sofi Dosa was braving centre stage with a bespoke mid-sized garden created with the assistance of her father and fellow design students and sponsored by Chef Ireland. The garden, entitled, "Blurred Lines" is a contemporary composition of highly detailed hard and soft materials. Sofi’s courage to take on such an ambitious project in her first year of study is a testament to her resolve but also to the BFEI ethos. Sofi's garden was five deep with onlookers and media representatives. ‘It’s been an amazing experience. So much hard work, so much attention. I don’t think I’ve slept in a month'.
BFEI has been part of Bloom in the Park since its inception with landscape design students and graduates always represented in the medals. Our two-year Higher National Diploma in Landscape Design has produced many of Ireland’s top design professionals both in landscape architecture and garden design.
